Despite court order, NIH grants remain frozen. Newly awarded grants, grants with fundable scores, & funds for a new budget cycle of a current project are all *FROZEN*🥶 and not being released. US research is being choked to death & is on life support right now www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
NIH is again throttling research funding in defiance of a federal court order
A freeze on "new and continuation awards" will "remain in place" pending DEI review, states a new internal memo.

On a day when a child died of measles this is too terrifying to contemplate. They truly want us to die don’t they?
Breaking: FDA's March meeting to select flu shot strains for 2025-2026 season has been canceled per email sent to committee members, a VRBPAC member told me. drug companies need about 6 months leeway to make shots in time for fall vax campaigns. #healthpolicy

Go @murray.senate.gov! 🔥👇💯 Hopefully people pay attention. This is absolutely correct. It is not hyperbole or grandstanding. NIH funding generates 400K jobs and billions in economic activity across the country. www.americanprogress.org/article/how-....

This is the kind of simple and direct message we need right now: long-term damage aside, this attack is going to very quickly make it even harder for people to have the jobs and medical care they need.
Research universities are often the largest employers in their region. They are often the primary health care providers to communities. This funding shift will not only reduce US research leadership, it will put working people out of work and reduce healthcare access.
Excellent 🧵 on this evening's NIH announcement of a dramatic reduction in indirect rates for research institutions, which amounts to a generational restructuring of the US research and development ecosystem. These cuts are effective immediately, not just for new grants but for existing ones.

I'm sorry, but "they took over the whole federal payments system, fired the career staff, and won't let anybody see what they're doing" is not a situation in which you wait for more information. It's a situation in which you assume the worst. There's no explanation for it other than rampant crimes.

My weekend with immunologists devising new strategies to treat cancer, allergy, Alzheimer’s, autoimmunity and infection. The WH has just paused peer-reviewed NIH funding that pays for these studies. If you care about human life, write your representatives. Demand that NIH funding is restored asap.

Illegal grant funding pause!!! This impoundment is absolutely absurd. The executive branch of the government has no power to pause allocated funds approved by congress. This will be faught.
Contact your senators!
Last night's pause on grant funding as of 5 pm today hurts the economy in all 50 states, throwing researchers studying diseases into chaos.

Look up your state:

Hello, #ScienceBluesky!
Stoked to start sharing cool science again!

Here is a pic I took of the aurora in Washington October 10th. An amazing amount of science goes into predicting when it’s worth driving 2.5 hours to clear skies!

Truly a wonder of the natural world!
