gotcha, that makes sense, thanks! missed that detail. since my agent is running in a harness on the server, looks like this isn't useful to me currently. bummer. but still really cool and seems super useful for the desktop/local agent use case

so overall it sounds like Skills serve a slightly different purpose from MCP/tool calls, and aren't suited to what I'm trying to do, but maybe I'm not understanding the feature correctly.

it sounds like Claude Skills are solving a similar problem, but maybe slightly different? if I wanted to use Skills for this purpose, it sounds like I'd have to write custom scripts that interface with the Todoist API, but then those would be run by Anthropic, not me, so auth is an issue

so eg, instead of linking the Todoist MCP, I've implemented some functions that call the Todoist API, and made those available to the agent as tools. to save tokens I intend to instead only list the available tools, and have the agent load tools/bundles of tools into context on demand

huh, interesting. I'm building a fledgling agent and so far I've eschewed MCP for the token efficiency reasons you mentioned, instead writing custom tools to give the agent the capabilities I want it to have.

this does a good job outlining WHAT happens when you avoid facing the truth, but it doesn't touch on what I think are the more useful questions to discuss: WHY is facing the truth hard and HOW do you get better at it?
