If you can only be a man because women are disenfranchised and devalued, then the mere progression toward equality threatens your sense of “manhood.” If you strip away that false sense of superiority, what are you without that? Are you as strong, or as smart or as capable as you thought you were?

While reading it, I kept thinking about that Toni Morrison quote: “If you can only be tall because someone else is on their knees, then you have serious problem.” She was referring to racism, but I feel that it applies here, too.
