Even though your roof has a leak and you have to hope that the silicone that you have shoved up there with limited curing time between rain bursts will reduce the internal waterfall, there is still this amazing structure (Echium Wildprettii) that grows and flowers in less than two years 🌱
The pink flower spire of an Echium Wildprettii of about 6 feet which was grown from seed last year. It will die after flowering but hopefully we will get some more seeds to plant and start the whole process again

No we couldn’t! However both beds are mostly full. Tomorrow will top up the soil as it usually sinks overnight, then will pop on some pea straw and then plant the desperately needing to go into soil plants! 🌱

Two much depleted piles of soil and blue metal with a white polypropylene bag in between. The late afternoon sun is highlighted on the troughs and peaks of the piles One of the wicking beds that have had 25cm of blue metal placed in the bottom of the bed. Then water has been added and the surface has been levelled. The bed has now had a layer of geotextile fabric added to provide a barrier between the screenings and the soil. This helps to prevent the water reservoir from getting sour and becoming clogged with dirt and becoming pong whiffy! One of the beds is nearly full. The soil should sink overnight and require a top up of extra soil (luckily we have quite a bit left!), then the pea straw and plants can go in

Two piles of ingredients for a wicking bed. One is a pile of 7mm blue metal, the other a pile of veggie mix. There are some polyethylene bags in the forefront that are used to move the ingredients to the wicking beds The internals of one wicking bed - it is lined with water safe plastic sheeting. At one end it has the “plumbing” for the wicking bed. The second wicking bed ready to receive the ingredients of blue metal and veggie mix. It’s internals are exactly like the first bed

This little beauty opened this morning a rare (for Aus) Narcissus ‘Ben Bier’ hoop petticoat daffodil. This is one of the kiddo’s collection and it is the second year in a row that it has flowered and it is well worth the wait! 🌱
