On March 29, 2007, the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV was released on the Rockstar Games website. The site crashed due to high traffic, so several people posted mirrors of the video on different sites. One user on 4chan, Shawn Cotter, linked to the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video rather than the trailer, tricking numerous readers into the bait-and-switch.
