to me, the emperor card conveys being dynamic, taking action, sharing one's talents and gifts with the world in doing so. since the empress is a card about receiving, i see the emperor as the counterpoint to that theme (in other words, giving)

people not expecting the author, who is african, to speak fluent korean was like when i spoke in english, my first language, to my partner at yangon int'l airport (myanmar / burma.. was lucky to visit in 2019), and a local woman stared at me, curious. i smiled at her to break the tension :)
