Here there be nonsense.
Unless something goes unexpectedly sideways, I'll be at AAS in January and I'm really looking forward to seeing a bunch of my friends in person again.

I absolutely adored GM GM today! I really do hope this becomes semi regular. I would be perfectly happy if it stays Aabria and Brennan or if there are occasional guests, I just love discussion about telling stories. @worldsbeyondnumber.bsky.social

I had a lovely time visiting Philly and exploring offbeat museums! I ate a lot of good food and walked a ton. Still plenty of things to see if I'm ever there again.

Aurora Science 🔭🧪

What do the colors of the aurora tell you 👇

Utterly unfair that there's aurora at my parents house when I'm not there to see it.

I'm glad that years of practice mean the 500 words I handwrote at 2am in the dark because the imagery of a scene seized me are still legible in the morning.

Enjoyed a fall nature walk yesterday followed by some live music in a churchyard with a big group of picnicers. (I skipped the bike ride, but maybe next year.)

It might not be all in one project, but I'm going to try to hit 50k again this year. It's been a long time since I wasn't working on the same story every November and I'm looking forward to the uncertainty.

I love watching @thatbronzegirl.bsky.social DM because she makes me feel so much better about my lack of a poker face while DMing. Laughing with your players is the best. #criticalrole

I didn't think I could love Bolaire any more, and then that cold open. 🖤 It's like Taliesin made the character just for me. #criticalrole

I know I'm a night owl, but sometimes even I surprise myself with how much energy I have at 3am just because I was invested in a good story.

Maybe it's the introvert in me, but if I was still waiting in line for a bar at midnight, I would simply go home.

Today I salute Elizabeth Brown (1830-1899) who "with the gentle persistency which characterised her...would not take 'No' for an answer", was a key architect in the founding of the British Astronomical Association at a time when the Royal Astronomical Society was not admitting women! Pure legend 🤩👩‍🔬🔭

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin ✨ figured out what stars are made of ✨ when she was just 25. 🔭🧪

Her PhD thesis basically established the Harvard astro department — at a time when Harvard didn't officially allow woman students.

I wrote this little profile to mark the 100th anniversary of her thesis:

For the last two years, I've been paying for the Astronomy feeds hosting myself.

It has been a privilege to grow our community here, but I also shouldn't keep doing it for free 😅

That's why I'm delighted to announce that we now have a donations page on Open Collective! 🔭☄️ #astrophotography

New Arabic records from Cairo on supernovae 1181 and 1006
The remnant of the historical supernova SN 1181 is under discussion: While the previously suggested G130.7+3.1 (3C58) appears too old (3000-5000 yr), the unusual star IRAS 00500+6713 with a surroundin...
