The lesson of this children’s book is “Stand up for what you know is right even if you may get hurt.” But children learn best when there are behaviors to model rather than words to listen to.

For Woman's History Month, I choose to highlight Virginia Randolph. Born in the 1870s to former slaves, and overcoming multiple tragedies, she rose to alter the landscape of education for southern black children. Her teaching style is still in use in many places in the world.

I was pleased to have had the opportunity to address Democratic women from Baltimore and Howard Counties. We discussed how fighting for truth and justice in the past may help pave the way for the future.
