Biber (auch englisch Beaver oder Beaverteen) ist ein dichtes Gewebe aus Baumwolle, das ein- oder beidseitig z. B. durch Walken aufgeraut wurde. Der Stoff wird dadurch etwas dicker, flauschig und weich, sodass er auf der Haut als wärmer empfunden wird. Namensgebend für den Stoff ist das gleichnamige Säugetier.[1] Der Biber besitzt ein sehr dichtes Fell, das ihn vor der Auskühlung im Wasser bewahrt. Biber wird daher vorwiegend für Winterbettwäsche, warme Unterwäsche und Flanellhemden verwendet. Ursprünglich wurde Biber nur in Köperbindung hergestellt; der heute für Bettwäsche verwendete Stoff ist meist leinwandbindig. Zum Teil gibt es noch eine Unterscheidung zwischen Biber und Feinbiber, wobei beim Feinbiber etwas leichtere und dünnere Garne zum Einsatz kommen, damit das Gewebe weniger starr ist als klassisches Bibergewebe. Biber wird auch Rauhcouverture, Rohflanell oder Baumwollflanell genannt. Die englische Bezeichnung lautet flannelette.

Several hours later, Stede was beginning to realise that the number of drinks needed to achieve his goal was not possible to decant into his system. He was sitting in the third bar he had visited that night, each one slightly rowdier than the last. This one had a theme night going called “Naughty Or Nice”, and everyone apart from Stede was dressed in leather harnesses and/or feathered angel wings and the like. He would have felt out of place if he hadn’t been too sloshed to care. Also, some at least equally sloshed passer-by had plonked an LED-lit plastic halo on his head and he was still wearing his Yeti ugly Christmas sweater from the office party, so at least he wasn’t just sitting, or rather slouching, on his stool in his boring work clothes. He'd just ordered and downed the latest of many bright green shots that tasted vaguely of peppermint and was wondering whether he could stomach another when a very, VERY muscular arm swam into his view and the very, VERY tall man attached to the arm sat down on the stool next to him. Perhaps, not so much sat down as swayed in front of the stool and gingerly touched his backside to the seat. “This taken, boss?”, he asked Stede in a deep voice, trying and failing to focus his eyes on Stede’s face. Stede let his eyes roam over the man’s very, VERY impressive expanse of chest, clad only in a black leather harness and along his very, VERY huge biceps. This guy could probably crush Stede’s head between his thumb and his little finger, but he seemed harmless enough. “Isnow”, he answered, and watched as the Hulk’s brother from a less green mother put a tiny amount of his butt onto the barstool, like he was a afraid to break it. “Jus’ sit. I promise, I won’ hur’ you”, Stede slurred, giggling at his own joke. “Not allowed”, the man mumbled. “Chairs are expensive, Auntie says.” He gestured at the formidable figure behind the bar, a no-nonsense Polynesian lady with a tight bun and a steely look in her eye. “Ah, I see.
