⛔ The Lord Chancellor’s decision to block the Sentencing Council’s guidance on pre-sentence reports is a deliberate step backwards.

Blocking progress is not about fairness, it’s about maintaining a status quo that already fails too many.

Sentencing guidelines ditched after 'two-tier' row.

That’s the headline.

The sad subtext is that pre-sentence probation reports are a good idea across the board. Alas, those days seem to be over.

Shame.

Sentencing guidelines delayed after 'two-tier' row
It comes after the government said it would pass an emergency law to override the guidance.

Omg. Incredible.
Breaking: The Romanian Constitutional Court has annulled the first round of the presidential elections. This means the elections will have to be redone from scratch, including the re-registration of the candidates, validation by the BEC and will be repeated once the government sets a new date.
So as expected, the Constitutional Court has postponed its decision on whether to validate the elections to 17:00 on Monday (Dec 2). In the meantime, voter recounts are underway across the country, despite criticism of the move from even anti-Georgescu voices such as Lasconi’s USR party.

In a former Derbyshire mining town, that has been the target of far-right activists from the National Front and the British National party, people have pulled together, to show an alternative to far right division and misery can exist.

Here’s why their actions are an inspiration for us all… 🧵👇

The current sick pay system is not fit for purpose. Too many workers in the UK have to try and survive on £116 a week of Statutory Sick Pay.

Today we have written to the Prime Minister, alongside 23 Trade Unions, asking for an increase to the rate of Statutory Sick Pay. It is time for #SafeSickPay
24 trade union leaders have written to the Prime Minister expressing concern that Labour's manifesto commitment to "strengthen sick pay" isn't being honoured - and calling for an increase in Statutory Sick Pay.

All workers should have access to #SafeSickPay
