Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out.

Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation.

Say equity, which a just society should pursue.

Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

Today's French lesson is very timely as I slip into Phase 4: "Il y a quatre âges dans la vie de l'homme : - celui où il croit au père Noël ; - celui où il ne croit plus au père Noël ; - celui où il est le père Noël ; - celui où il ressemble au père Noël."

All the coverage of Syria appears to me to say that the Assad regime was at best evil and at the worst off any previous scale. Why has the civilized world allowed this to go on for so long and, more importantly, not report the truth of what was happening?

I'm officially the family dullard as my wife picked up her PhD today in Swansea after 7 years of hard slog while holding down a demanding teaching role. A proud moment for all.

Brilliant recital last night by the great Olivier Latry on a mere (!) 2 manual and very English organ. Encore of Widor's toccata - you know the one from the 5th symphony - played meticulously and sedately.

I wonder if President Macron used an official translator for the French word "convictions":
