When I was little I reached into my pocket and thought I felt a dead bug in it. I didn't want to pull it out and look at it because I knew it would be awful and if I looked, the grossness would be real. That's how I feel about looking at the conclusion section of my diss that I wrote in November.

Every semester, I ask my students for music recommendations and create a playlist with their favorite songs. Here's this semester's playlist, from my WRA 101 and ENG 100 students!

In her final reflection, a student ended the essay with "Thank you so much for a semester!" and while I know she most likely omitted an adjective unintentionally, she did nail it anyway. It definitely was a semester lol

I saw a post somewhere talking about the worst friend-Christmas gift they'd ever gotten, and it reminded me of the time my small (~10 people) church youth group did a Secret Santa and I received... a used tube of chapstick.

Anybody else worried that their Spotify Wrapped is going to come with a personalized note saying “You’ve listened to ‘Blood Sport’ by Sleep Token a frankly upsetting number of times, are you okay?”

I used to (unfairly) scoff at people who paid others to format their dissertations. Now, after spending 20 minutes trying to make Word let me insert a caption without causing a nuclear meltdown in the entire document, I can finally admit how wrong I was.

Just got my copy of @mooncityreview.bsky.social 2024, with two of my poems in it. What a great start to spring break!

It’s probably going to get incredibly overlooked because it’s a fifth-film prequel to a YA series but seriously, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is incredible. I wish it didn’t have all the series baggage because it truly deserves more hype on its own.

Gave Lucy a gabapentin before the vet and now she is both Eepy and Angry.

The past few days were kind of awesome. Had probably the best class discussion of my ten-year teaching career, did two interviews for my dissertation, had two poems selected for publication, and read at this month's United We Read creative writing showcase. It doesn't get better than this.

It's getting to be that time of year when I just really need someone to make a list called "Gifts for Men Who Don't Need Beard Oil and Who Already Have Plenty of Whiskey Stones"

Academic folks--I'm preparing my job market materials. Do I need to use a service like Interfolio? Is it a red flag in applications if I just include, say, letters of rec in my own materials? Is it worth the fee to use Interfolio, regardless?

I have plenty of stuff to do with my actual dissertation and job search, but instead I spent the evening submitting poetry to dream publications. Tomorrow is another day, I guess.

My IRB was approved for my dissertation! Now to just. You know. Actually do this.
