They don’t. They think we should hide them away and they shouldn’t have to treat them as humans or members of society. They’re ableist ghouls and they only ever find out how the world works when stuff affects them directly. I pray for a day when America stops reveling in its hateful selfishness.

Amazing story! Now I want to go read more about him (it helps that he's gorgeous).

I've been thinking of them as Gestapo, but your analogy works even better.

Those of us not totally worn out by the hardships in our lives need to fight even harder to win in 2026 and 2028 so that we can start repairing the damage done to the few safety nets we have.

Thank you! It is harder than it has to be, especially now thanks to this admin gutting the supports for both parents and children. We do what we need to, in order to help our children thrive as best we can anyway.

People with disabilities were the ones I thought of first when I heard about the cuts to Medicaid.
the republicans don't care if our children or other family members who have disabilities or chronic illnesses die.

My daughter is 22 and aging out this year. I’m horribly afraid of what the future holds for her and everyone else who depends on Medicaid funded programs with these horrible people in charge.

I'm so so sorry. I have nothing to offer other than my sympathy.

I was always infuriated with the people who knew about our son and said to me "god never gives you something you can't handle."
That's absolute BS (even if I believed in god, which I don't).
We are often burdened with things we can't handle, and sometimes we fall apart.
And some of us never recover

Relatedly, shout out to all my fellow caregivers taking care of a parent with Alzheimer’s. Our journey just ended but as with Kevin’s post, the truth is this:

You never know how strong you are until you have to be.

Hope the cuts in education and to Medicaid don't undermine the programs your child needs!
November 19, 2025 at 1:58 AM
It's lovely that your kid does that!
Sadly, some of our disabled children don't have the ability to tell us or even show us that. We just have to know it in our hearts.

And when your child becomes an adult, they require you to legally abandon them in order for the state to provide any services. Could anything be more cruel???

not just government but also health insurance company and school systems.

Just wrote a comment about how much harder it is because of insurance companies, school system, etc. They made us fight for everything he needed. E.g., took a vacation with our son and our health insurance claimed he didn't need physical therapy anymore bcs we went without it while on vacation!

We made sure our son's school and the hospital when he got sick knew that we were carefully watching out for him. When systems see attentive parents, they are more likely to give the child the care they deserve.
I feel bad for people with disabilities who have no family to advocate for them.

That's a terribly hard job. You deserve support and encouragement for taking it on.
My brother & SIL insisted on moving my father in with them for the last 6 mos of his life and they took wonderful care of him.
I will always be grateful to them!

As mother of a severely disabled kid (died in 1991), I thank you. It was hard, exhausting & often depressing. The hardship wasn't just because of our son's disabilities but also because of how he & we were treated by insurance companies, school system, government, strangers & some family members

The way anti-trans actions are spreading across nations is horrifying. The UK's supreme court, the US supreme court made disgusting decisions.
But I thought better of Canada.

To claim that these files will have nothing good in them and that this isn’t really a win at all is both short-sighted and selfish.

This is a fucking enormous win for the survivors. This is the beginning of an accountability that they never thought they would see because Epstein was so protected. 🧵

It's been disgusting to watch.
