China’s CO₂ emissions have been flat or falling for 21 months.
While the West is still debating, China quietly broke the ‘you can’t grow and cut emissions’ myth. Cue the comments explaining why this ‘doesn’t count’, ‘is fake’, or ‘will reverse any second now’. 🍿 #Bettrification#EnergyReality

Ok I’ll say the thing: it was an astonishingly bad decision by previous UK governments to severely restrict onshore wind and large grid-scale solar. We would almost certainly have cheaper and cleaner power now if they hadn’t.

(And a good decision by this government to end those restrictions)

This is however a lot less power than bought in the offshore wind auction. Solar has a “capacity factor” (what share of that 4.9GW capacity gets turned into actual power) of around 10% in Britain.

Onshore wind is around 25%, whereas offshore is at least 35%, often up to 50% for new builds

#spacex #ai

Is the Spacex/xAI merger and IPO with datacenters in space a massive IPO scam? Elon has to know that his space launch lead is going to get eroded over the next 2 years as other players get into the market and he has to know that the business case for xAi in a crowded market is not […]

We made dogmatic choices against nuclear energy, which was the stupidity of the century.

As for the "irreversibility" of this phaseout: in all cases it’s easier, cheaper and faster to refurb a partially dismantled unit […]

China (fastest) can build a 1GW nuclear plant in 50 mnths & Rosatom (cheapest) can build one for $5B.

Masdar are building a 1GW 24/7 solar plus storage plant in UAE for $6B. The project broke ground in Oct '25 & is scheduled to be completed in '27 (25 mnths). This is the costliest & slowest […]

Solar-covered parking could match entire U.S. power output (~4,400 TWh/yr). Australia’s even better placed: brutal sun, vast car parks, grid-edge stress, #EV demand. Globally this is pre-cleared land + instant generation. Not tech-limited—planning-limited. Shade → power. ⚡🌞🅿️ #Bettrification #Solar

Landfill panic about wind & solar collapses once you look at displacement. Renewables create small, managed end-of-life waste. Fossils create massive, continuous waste streams — CO₂, particulates, toxics — dumped straight into the atmosphere every hour. Flows matter, not scare pics. #Bettrification
Landfill Panic vs System Reality: What Wind & Solar Actually Displace - CleanTechnica
Claims about wind and solar filling landfills ignore what they displace. On a per MWh basis, fossil fuels emit orders of magnitude more harmful mass.
