The top is the line from my DrGrip, the bottom from a Pilot Metropolitan, which I'd recommend as a starter pen in this case (or either a Platinum Plaisir or Lamy Safari or AL-star). All are roughly in the 20-30 USD range.

No skill, just paper, colored pencils & moments to myself. But the paper takes the Stabilo pens, my colored pencils & fountain pen ink pretty well, so a pretty good day.

Added a pen holder to Operation: Lap Desk. Not perfect, but pretty good

Two feet of elastic, a minute of sewing & two small nails and now Operation: Lap Desk has a strap to secure a couple of things, like a notebook & pen roll.

Still working on this, trying it across the room under a new lamp. A little more awkward with the uneven padding. It def needs work.

I spent a part of yesterday evening working on a lap desk. I took a plank from my old desk which is about 11 inches wide and tried to see what I could do with it.
The early results are broadly positive and I have some ideas of what to do next.
