Made this as a way to talk about moderation more freely, to maintain some lists, to learn, and to share the occasional funny or scary story about it.

Good faith questions welcomed, bad faith questions and sealioning muted, rude replies blocked.

Listifications is the devil and I do not recommend it.

The vast majority of people are just not psychologically able to deal with real-time notifications of people not liking them and get totally unhinged about it.

It's opt-in.

Your posts and replies clearly show that you've been seeking follow-backs by engaging in the usual schemes to artificially grow. As such, your account was correctly added to the list.

BTW you've been here since November 14th, 2024, which is nowhere near "the start".
You are farming followers when you participate in follow-back arrangements like follow trains, "meet and greet" threads, reply with x emoji to messages promising a spot in a starter pack, hit follow all on starter packs that promise "most follow back", and so on.

The auth is only enforced in the UI and you can still just run into their API with whatever handle you want and page through eating all the JSON.

So yeah, not a fix.

Basically granting full control over your account, which is obviously not needed and also likely just needs the auth request to be tweaked.

Oh and fwiw the login is only enforced in the UI. The API is unchanged.

Anyway, first it was flipping out about having to log in to the service. One they find absolutely vital but have never paid for, and now loudly declare they will *never* pay for.

Then there were the permissions in the OAuth request.

True. That totally could happen and imho a net positive. Drama mostly just the login wall going up, but right on the heels of ads and support dialogs going in, so people read it as "acute onset of enshitification".

Despite that it looks like it's run by just one person.

Sounds like Clearsky’s login requirement might not be permanent, sadly. The drama this weekend sure revealed just how weird people get with it.

Saw one where they block if added to a list and *then* blocks every subscriber of the list.

What a complete waste of time.

Elected mods is a fantastically bad idea.

Your ideas are very simple and very obvious, and like everything in T&S, you should consider that maybe after over two decades, the reason we as a profession are not using the simple and obvious ideas is either that we tried them and they don't work, or they're nowhere near as simple as you think.
