At the centre stands a giant Climate Polluters Bill: it shows how only five oil & gas majors are responsible for US$5 trillion in projected damages from their emissions since 2015.

Communities are paying that bill with their homes, harvests, and lives, while oil & gas companies continue to profit.

It’s time to break free from Russian oil and gas.

Do this in solidarity of Ukraine 🇺🇦

Do this in defense of nature and climate.

The last EU sanction package made progress, but it’s slow and limited. Too many ambiguities and loopholes remain. E.g. EU businesses like TotalEnergies still hold shares in such projects. Investigations show sanctioned entities like Atomflot keep breaking Arctic ice to enable those LNG exports.

But stopping Russian LNG is crucial for humanity’s future too. The Arctic is warming 4x faster than the global average, accelerating sea ice loss. Climatic impacts of LNG’s methane are similar to coal. And Russia’s refusal to join the High Seas Treaty would make oversight more difficult.

Russian gas exports allow it to butcher Ukrainians in the dark: A single Russian LNG project in the Arctic yields enough $$$ to buy nearly 10 million artillery shells. The threat of Ukraine's colonization extends to all of free Europe.

I’m also excited to meet in person many campaigners and journalists that I only saw as icons on Zoom calls and in BlueSky posts. DM me if you’re up for a coffee and a chat!

European companies still generate billions for Russia by buying fossil gas, a new @greenpeace.be report shows.

Money that fuels the war on Ukraine. While Europe aids Ukraine, it also funds Putin’s war machine. Time to stop blood gas from Russia! #StopFossilGas

Now, former leaders from five continents have added their voices to this demand. From Colombia to Canada, Norway to South Korea, Mozambique to Sri Lanka, Mexico to Spain and beyond, former presidents and PMs are urging governments to hold fossil fuel corporations accountable for the climate crisis.

From research that Greenpeace International commissioned earlier (along with Oxfam) we know that 8 out of 10 people worldwide support taxing oil, coal and gas polluters for extreme weather damages and other climatic impacts.

8 in 10 people support taxing oil and gas corporations to pay for climate damages, global survey finds - Greenpeace International
The findings reveal broad public support for core demands of the Polluters Pay Pact, as climate impacts worsen worldwide and global inequality grows.

The obvious next step: hold oil and gas corporations to account. 8 out of 10 people support making them pay. Rich countries should commit to higher taxes on fossil fuel profits and extraction by COP30, and ensure those being hit hardest by the climate crisis worldwide benefit most from the revenues.
