A new form of 3D scanning is being developed using voxels instead of splats.

Personally I’m not into the boxed aesthetic, I dig the digital brushstrokes of Gaussian Splatting and how organic they look, instead of this.

But new techniques, more options, are always good.

It’s been cool to work with Splats because it feels very similar to working in projection design, in that it takes up space, but can’t be touched. Instead of it being a 3D model with collisions, it’s more like a virtual cast of light. Love it.

Update: Finally importing my scans into Godot and having a blast. Got a FPV controller going, now to dig deeper into the level design.

Also should probably resize the scan cuz rn I’m playing from the perspective of a toddler lol.

Working with 3DGS in blender using the KIRI addon and though I love what I’m seeing, I need a way to import this into Godot. Exporting this as an obj file gives me an unusable MTL (sighted right), so it’s just gray.

3DGS is so dope, but the documentation and compatibility rn is 🙄

Working on point clouds in blender today, hoping to export Gaussian Splats as glb files for Godot, but I know that requires a mesh so I would need something third party.
Anyone have any luck exporting point clouds as meshes?

In early stages of designing an unbeatable #boss that always follows the player. Curious on if I go with a singular entity, or an encroaching boundary of sorts. An entity can be #fear personified, whereas a boundary can symbolize the #unknown and be harder to empathize with.

I love how creative the devs got with the solutions behind beating each Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. The 11th having the fear of fire in a torch lined room was great, and the 12th was my favorite when I discovered striking the teeth of its crown drove it forward.

Remember the moving newspapers in Harry Potter? I tried emulating the same feel with my #projection design for a production of Lady Day earlier this year. I loved how it turned out.

I masked out #jazz icons from archival videos to do it. Would love to try this again with another project.

Thinking back to a session of mocap work at the CIM, part of the University of the Arts, where I used to teach before it shut down.
