The settlement cookbook and recipe. This is a recipe that I needed a memory of the final product to successfully recreate from the recipe given.

I found a recipe in the Settlement cookbook, which I’ve had for years without knowing it had a recipe.
It’s not exactly what she would have made, but after I made it the aroma brought me to tears.
I’m going to bake it into a pie for Christmas and set it out for her. I miss her more than ever.

After thinking about it for three years, I finally attempted to recreate my grandmother’s green tomato mincemeat (“mock” mincemeat) with the last of the tomatoes from the garden.
I haven’t been in the presence of this mincemeat since before my grandmother passed, 30+ years ago…

I am located in New York’s Capital District in the U.S.
I grew up in Southeastern Michigan, started my career in NYC and spent over 15 years there before we opened our restaurant in the Hudson Valley
