Noticing simple aspects of nature such as birdsong can provide measurable benefits to wellbeing, according to new research:
Birdsong and botany at heart of new wellbeing research
New research led by the University of Surrey has shown that paying attention to natural cues such as birdsong, plant scents and textures can significantly boost wellbeing. Conducted at RHS Wisley in collaboration with the University of Sheffield and the RHS, the study found that actively engaging with nature produces stronger restorative benefits than passive observation. The RHS will launch a wellbeing garden blueprint in 2026.
