i didn't know the term "side" existed when i published those two books; i wasn't trying to represent anyone except myself. but when i did discover the term, i was blown away--like omg, a word exists for my characters... and for me. and it was fascinating to read about how many cis gay men don't fit

thinking about that now!) and ended up throwing out the penetration. i made it a point in that book and the sequel, even through the implicit, gestural sex scenes i chose to write, to show that they never had penetrative sex--and that it was still sexy and satisfying for them both.

and now i know there are plenty of other ways to do sex, BUT penetration is still the main one depicted in fiction when at least one of the people involved has a dick. whenever a romance book depicts a couple starting out with non-penetrative sex acts, it's usually a build-up to penetration,
