I just finished God of the Woods and it just wasn't my cup of tea. I know I'm in the minority about it but eh.

Today's #goodnews story is about Northwest Battle Buddies started in Vancouver WA. They pair veterans with trained service dogs to prevent suicides.

The dogs have 5 months of training before getting paired with their veteran. Then it's 5 weeks of on-the-job training before graduation. 🥰
Nonprofit using service dogs to curb veteran suicides celebrates 300th pairing
The dogs train for the specific needs of the person they’re working with, but are all taught to disrupt panic attacks and help veterans feel safer in stressful situations.

In talking to my sister, I just realized I'm doing this cancer thing all wrong. I'm off coffee. I'm off edibles and weed. And I'm sober.

All I have is cheese, chocolate, and bread but my ass is lactose intolerant and gluten sensitive.

It's 2am where I am at and I just saw my MRI scan report and I want to run around the neighborhood screaming in delight.

My brain tumor has shrunk by 30% after 4 rounds of chemo.

Idk if that's fast or slow. Its progress!

So this is me, screaming around the neighborhood!

I have hada diminished reading attention span and have only listened to about 9 hours into a 24-hour book, which is about to be returned to Libby. And, there's a wait! So this month may be the first month in almost 4 years where I dont finish one book.

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this on audiobook. So much, I grew concerned to my sense of normalization for violence.

A slow burn of a romance.

Trigger warnings: violence, cannibalism, explicit sexual encounters, child abuse

Growing up in a heavy militarized state. Hmmm...

A must read.
A must listen.

Uhm, mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. If there were challenges of the mitochondria kind, cells wouldn't function ... like there wouldn't be brain function or movement. It wouldn't be inflammation and everybody would notice if you just stopped being able to move your right arm.

I feel like if the author can elicit strong feelings from me, they've done a good job. And, goodness, do I have strong opinions about some of these characters. Their actions gave me a headache and made my blood pressure rise!

A solid read!

Want to meet a most powerful main character in a YA novel?

Find yourself. Find your family. Fight the patriarchy.

Highly recommend the audiobook.

Trigger warning: death, torture

I still read every day but my attention span is lower and I'm reading a physical book which is taking longer.

Nonetheless, it was a month of extraordinary reads. Highly recommend all of them!

the US profoundly needs a children's rights movement. children are not property... they deserve opportunity and learning and autonomy and security.... and our country just does not acknowledge this

This book! OMG. Devastating.

The walking dead.

The horrors persist, but so do they.

Goodness, is it bleak.

I don't even think I can continue with the next book, I need a moment. It's raw. It's scary in how realistic it can all get.

It's fiction, right? Not prophecy.

Medicaid info and ICE, what's the connection?

Take a mixed citizenship status family.

The kids qualify for medicaid but the parents don't due to lack of documents, you now have identified where they live. So you look for families where only the kids are covered.

So June/July is S'mores season and I'm already seeing Pumpkin Spice hitting the stores. That is September/October flavors.

What happened to August? What are August's flavors?

Telling women to modify their behavior to avoid being victims of violent crime ignores the actual issue of predators being predatory. Predators like a challenge and still telling victims they are responsible absolves the predator completely.

"The history of slavery is the history of the United States. It was not peripheral to our founding, it was central to it. It is not irrelevant to our contemporary society, it created it. This history is in our soil, it is in our policies, and it must too be in our memories."

Powerful, a must read!

It doesn't matter if they are ever coming for you.

It was always ever already too much that they were coming for anyone.

A short 4 hour listen but I savored it in 30 minute increments or less. Felt like I was listening to an aunt's recollections.

A lovely, lovely relationship between mother and daughter. And the impact a mother's expectations and guidance can have. I did miss grandma after the first third though.

The reason I now believe ICE should be abolished is not that I don't think we need some kind of agency to deal with immigration and customs, but rather that this particular agency has so soiled its reputation and is operating so far out of bounds in a democracy that the only solution is to end it.
