“I’m hungry,” Darkness pouts, and Sun laughs at her, sharp and bright, glass tinkling in the sunlight. “So eat,” she mocks. Darkness snaps her teeth at her, grinning wide enough to swallow her beloved’s head, if she so chooses. “I should eat you for this.” Sun moans at the thought, lips parted, clouds gathering over her eye. This time, Darkness is the one to laugh at her, her feet carrying them both to a blackberry bush weighted down by its own spawn. “Devour you, and rob myself of your tongue? Not so soon after I’ve found it again.” Found it and sewed it into her beloved’s mouth, every needle pinprick having blood well up in its wake. She’d suckled on Sun’s crimson-stained teeth for hours, licking Sun’s voice out from sharp incisors pressed gently into bleeding gums until she’d heard her name slip into their kiss. Oh, the rush! The pressing need to stitch each syllable into every rib cradling her heart! Sun had laughed at her then, too, muffled by the thread fluttering at the base of her gullet.

His eyes, He Xuan notices through delirium wrought unto his mind, are large, frantic, jittering in their socket as if unwilling to see. He hates them. Hates them more when the tender care worms its way to the surface.
