There are also board members who are just in it as a hobby or a social outlet. Which is great, if there weren't real costs to taxpayers.
I would encourage them to take up birding instead, or perhaps start an advocacy organization. They could call it something like the Local Reporter Reporter. 😀

When people are that thirsty to get on a volunteer advisory board, or keep others off of them, it might be time to ask if they are really fulfilling their intended purpose or are instead serving as a means to give a small number of unelected people outsized influence.

Also remembering that when I moved from HAB to PC, someone w/ town told me there was "horse trading" involved to get me on the PC.
