As an author, I don't make a whole lot of money, but at the same time I need to read a lot of books to stay aware of trends and support my fellow authors. Obviously if I spend all my profits on other people's books, I'm not coming out ahead!

So: ways to read lots of indie books for cheap.

Falling back in love with CDs as I move away from Spotify. There's a joy in listening to an album as a full art piece and to being more intentional about consuming.

Plus CDs are cheap, fairly easy to find, and have amazing sound

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

Devoured Boys with Sharp Teeth and I know I'll be back for another tasting to savor the prose and philosophy bits. This book exemplifies what I love about dark academia - flawed characters, toxic friendships, and mediations on truth, self, and death. Plus a touch of paranormal? Chef's kiss!

"рукописи не горят / Manuscripts don't burn"

Satirical, fantastical, romantic, supernatural - The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov is a genre-defying, mind-bending classic that survived censorship and bans. I can only describe it as an Experience™ (in a good way).

Mr. Miyazaki sir, I love your movies about how capitalism and the destruction of nature are evil, I made a shitty facsimile of them in a computer that drains reservoirs, do you like it

(1/3) I first read E.J. Koh's memoir The Magical Language of Others over a year ago and she's fast become one of my favorite authors. I still go back to trace through the same few passages over and over. 💙📚

I have thoughts and feelings on what happened today. Zelinsky deserves better. Ukraine deserves better. The United States also deserves better.

Sick and tired
(Disclaimer: trans is at the head for a reason, but all else is random. Getting distracted by what should go where is exactly the petty distraction they want.)

An eye for an eye... So strangely enough, I drew this right after watching House of the Dragon in 2022. I was inspired (very vaguely) by Aemond Targaryen. #art
