Ooooh right yes, I'm familiar with those! Totally agree with you, I deeply connect with what those aesthetics are going for at their core but not so much how they usually just end up being backdrops for horror or like SCP stuff.

I'm watching a VHS rip version of this and it feels like the correct way to watch it. All of the VHS artifacting and audio quality makes everything feel so much more powerful and eerie. Highly recommended

Oh nice, I'll keep that in mind! I think I worked it out anyway - I guess you can use still have alpha clipping on an opaque + shadow-casting material anyway, so that will do for now. Just no in-between transparency
