I spent years (starting around 2015 for some reason) wondering why I was surrounded by such terrible people. I finally realized that “terrible” is the default setting. Decades ago we stopped working to morally form the populace. Societal disintegration was the only possible outcome.

Well, as of last night I finally caught up on all the Star Trek from the last several years. (Except Discovery, which, just no.)

Picard was extremely (disgustingly) hit and miss writing, but season 3 was intravenous nostalgia.

Mem Rise is clearly superior to duolingo at teaching French if only because it teaches cursing MUCH earlier.

Having made some effort to organize my theological positions, I seem to be largely Orthodox except my ecclesiology is Anglican, my epistemology is rationalist and scientific, and my political theology is some unclear mix of anabaptist and liberation. I'd be Orthodox if not for the Orthodox Church.

By my count there are about a dozen bishops claiming apostolic succession with jurisdiction in some part of Nashville. So the important question is, who would win in a free for all to decide the one true Bishop of Nashville?

Any time I stumble across the phrase God's “bowels of mercy” I have to wonder if they're near the deltoids of compassion or the abs of being kind.

Just me?

One of my favorite parenting moves has to be the digital picture frame.

For whatever quirk of my brain, I have no good memories of childhood. I had a good childhood, I was safe and loved and lacked nothing I needed. But the bad outweighed the good in my memory. I want better for my kids.

I've been using the same electric water kettle for years. I got a calibrated thermometer and it turns out that my kettle temperature settings are 20 degrees cooler than labeled.

My life is a lie.

I've concluded that there are just two kinds of people in the world. On one hand you have the people that can acknowledge error and change and become right. On the other hand you have those that cannot acknowledge error and so will stay wrong forever.

Everything begins with a spirit of repentance.
