Recent research has identified novel signalling mechanisms involving extracellular auxin perception and auxin-mediated cyclic AMP production.

Fifteen years after I first bent over anthers with a magnifying glass to observe the dynamics of their opening, our description of the mechanism of their dehiscence is now published in PNAS!
Stomatal transpiration and rapid programmed cell death ☠️ triggered by lowered ambient humidity causes anther tissue collapse for effective pollen release !
