This inspires me! I will be visiting a beach in Mexico tomorrow and I discovered some calcite crystal filled fossil shells last time I was there. This time I am more prepared!

Wow, that is super cool. they almost look like polyps or something like that. Maybe an organism that set up in a softer material that was then replaced with silica? That's a beauty.

facts: soft. most layers scratched with old copper nail, those that didn't scratched with steel. Translucent. Reacts to household vinegar. Calcium based? Possibly not all layers react, hard to tell. Under UV flashlight (the cheap kind), rocks glow orange, green, purple. Baja California Sur.

Well, I did crabapple butter a couple of times. It was, um, labor intensive. But delicious. Especially the one spiced with jalapeño. I like to play with my food.
