Sailor, Traveler, Rock Nerd, therapist, artist-in-spirit. Deeply disappointed in my country, I seek solace in nature, my family, my work, the sea, and, most definitely, my rocks. Follow me for zero politics. We all need a place of rest so we can carry on
Some of yesterday’s finds. I can’t wait to cut that crazy lacy one! Now trying to limit myself to those I can easily pick up with one hand. So. Hard.

They have the most beautiful rhyolite here on the Baja peninsula. So many colors and even different forms. I think some of this is known as wonderstone, but I call them Picasso Stones. #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #geology

“Wait! Could those be rhyolite spires over there? I need to go to that little beach next to them. “ It did not disappoint. Volcanic breccia held in an agate matrix? Yes, please. #rockhounds #rockhoundingadventures #volcanics

facts: soft. most layers scratched with old copper nail, those that didn't scratched with steel. Translucent. Reacts to household vinegar. Calcium based? Possibly not all layers react, hard to tell. Under UV flashlight (the cheap kind), rocks glow orange, green, purple. Baja California Sur.

Bucket list bingo. Also found one I think is a short finned mako shark in the same area. This one looks to he from an ancient white shark. Still so sharp! What a day. #fossils

I took a complete social media and news break bit there was no break from rockhounding or studying the geomorphology of Mexico’s Sea of Cortez. #rockhounding # geology

Came back from our Chihuahua trip with a full heart, backpacks full of specimens, and a whopping case of covid. Note: train porters do not understand the rock collector and her heavy bags, which she does not want them touching. #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures

So sad to be leaving this beautiful place today. I could stay a lot longer. Here are a few specimens coming home with me. Chihuahua region of Mexico #rockhounds #rockhoundingadventures #agate #chalcedony #lapidary

Guy, how do you handle it when you are visiting a place and there are too many beautiful rocks? I am needing another bag. But no stores anywhere near here. This problem will be solved. #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #agate

Whoops. I am supposed to be traveling light. I guess not, though. State of Chihuahua, MX does not disappoint. #rockhound #rockhoundadventures #agates

Staying at an ecolodge, basically like an old bunk house, near Cerocahui. Take a look at this rock formation they have named Yogi Bear. Sea level to about 6000 feet. Brrrrrr #Rockhounds

I will see your Pelagic cormorant and raise you this Double Crested cormorant as seen scoping out our boat in Mexico. Cormorants are pretty neat birds, flying, as they do, both above and below the water.

Still not in a place with good rocks. So, more birds, please. A couple new for my Exotic Bird Bingo card. Some old friends. Soon a trip to Copper Canyon here in MX. BIG ROCKS! #Birdsoftheworld #Birds #Wildlife

Two things: birds in mid-air and bird faces. If I catch them in mid-air can I borrow a part of their soul that flies? I don't know. I just love seeing it. I submit these Mexico birds in mid air. Note: two Blue Footed Boobies who are parallel as they hit the water. #Birdsoftheworld #birds

Here's more birds of Mexico. Some Black Vultures, White Ibis, another Reddish Egret and I can't get enough of the national bird of Mexico, the Crested Caracara. They are gorgeous. #Birdsoftheworld #birds #wildlife

There are no rocks to collect here in the bay in Topolobampo. Just a ton of very cool birds for my Exotic Bird Bingo card. We think the Crested Caracaras have a nest in the cactus and the Reddish Egret is clearly having a bad hair day. #birds #sailing #wildlife #birdsoftheworld

Just had to post this beautiful rock found in the tide pools near Mazatlan. Just gorgeous colors, all pinks, blues, greens. Weighed about 25 pounds so it’s still there. And a mushroom pink sandstone. #rockhound #geology #rockhoundingadventures

Best guess is banded rhyolite with veins of agate. Iron staining on the outside prevents seeing its true colors but based on other material i think it would be grey and red. I left this one but it was fun finding it. #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #volcanics

More from the Mazatlan area. I am trying to get better about choosing the best ones. It’s hard. So many agates on one of the beaches. Beautiful banded rhyolite on another #geoogy #rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #agate #volcanics #sailing

I’ve been focused on rock collecting the beaches around Mazatlan. Holy toledo! I can post only four photos but there is always tomorrow. And the next day. #rockhounding #rockhounds #agates #volcanics #sailing #rockhoundingadventures

Rhyolite, how do you make your coats of many colors? You are explosive in design and sport the colors of Mexico shamelessly. Rhyolites of Mazatlan. Impossible to love just one. #Rockhound #rockhoundingadventures #sailing #lapidary #volcanics Rhy
