Despite so much effort and money to make car mobility “frictionless,” even the most car-oriented places still have tons of friction.

The most car-oriented shopping areas of my town are miserable and stressful to drive in.

The only areas with low friction are where few people exist.

US failures around road safety should be a national embarrassment.

This deep dive is a couple years old, but its main thesis remains true: America’s sky-high death toll is due to policy choices – not “national character.”

A root problem is the American tendency to pin the responsibility for safety on road users themselves, ignoring the influential roles of road designers, auto co’s, and policymakers.

Such groups can duck responsibility by blaming individuals instead.

I bike to places even when I don’t feel like it because I’m too lazy to look for car parking. It’s frustrating and wastes too much time.

Same! I actually walked to the appointment I referenced in the original post. Just 12 minute walk.

Exactly! My resting heart rate is incredibly unimpressive compared to people who ride for sport. I’m usually not riding far or fast. But I try to move every day, either biking or walking.

During the 12/18 Mobility Committee meeting, I confirmed with staff that pedestrian access will remain open through the permanently closed section of Mayhill. Bike/pedestrian/scooter traffic will be able to travel from the rail trail west across the tracks to Colorado Blvd.

Likewise, suggesting that an option be OFFERED is often interpreted as that option being MANDATED while banning all existing options.

Like that offering public transit or bicycle infrastructure means people won’t be allowed to own cars or drive.
