Exactly! There's so much room for subverting obvious comparisons & figurative expressions, breathing new life into tired turns of phrase. Readers (like me) are excited by & want to see this. But it first has to make sense! It has to be factually correct (if not necessarily grammatically so).

I just think not enough prose writers read [good] poetry (or even prose for that matter). That would solve half this issue. (The other half would be to pay editors better & give them less work so they can do their actual jobs.)

Ha! The bane of my existence: writing that hasn't yet paid sufficient attention to language use, attempting to *sound* rich without unpacking for meaning, & editorial teams too harried/overburdened to flag it (or worse, steted into oblivion by a writer being prematurely too sure of themselves.)
