Plenty of pundits are calling the Australian election result a reaction to Trumpism. The opposition had a bad leader, no clear plan, and backed nuclear in a country overflowing with renewable potential. Sure, Trump vibes didn’t help, but this was mostly Australia rejecting bad ideas.

Meanwhile, private finance treats climate as a core risk. This denial of common sense and economic reality is both expensive and dangerous for global development. #IMF #ClimateEconomics

As an LCA expert, I cringe at "zero-emissions" claims. Nuclear's concrete, steel & uranium mining all cause emissions. Cleaner than coal? Yes. As clean as wind/solar? No.

But Australia? Different story. CSIRO's latest report shows nuclear would cost 2-6x more than renewables with storage. First plant wouldn't even run until 2040.

By 2050, half of humanity could rely on food produced oceans away.

We need to act now to build resilient systems that can withstand future shocks.

What steps is your organization taking?

Some solutions:

✅ Strengthen supply chains: Diversify sourcing to reduce risks from droughts or conflicts.
✅ Invest in local farming: Cities can back urban farms, and businesses can fund climate-resilient crops.
✅ Push for sustainable trade policies: Support fair, planet-friendly agreements.

This $2 trillion global food system is efficient, but fragile.

Disruptions like extreme weather, conflicts, or tariffs send shockwaves through food prices. As climate change worsens, the risks are growing.

So what can we do to protect global food security?

#cop29 “effectively a suicide pact”!
Too late to reduce emissions… too little resources to adapt to climate change… What’s next?
