I'm pro-nuclear & grew up with it in Sweden. When our plants were built in the 1960s, it made perfect sense - renewables were expensive & Nordic winters aren't known for sunshine!

By 2050, half of humanity could rely on food produced oceans away.

We need to act now to build resilient systems that can withstand future shocks.

What steps is your organization taking?

This $2 trillion global food system is efficient, but fragile.

Disruptions like extreme weather, conflicts, or tariffs send shockwaves through food prices. As climate change worsens, the risks are growing.

So what can we do to protect global food security?
December 1, 2024 at 4:04 AM
Our food system is both a marvel and a risk.

80% of humanity lives in countries that rely on food imports, while just 9 nations provide 80% of globally traded staples like wheat, corn, rice, and soybeans?

Here’s why this matters + how we can act. 👇

Why do we keep seeing this? My son just got a bed frame from Yona, and he asked, ‘What does 100% sustainable even mean?’ The truth is, it often means… nothing. Your bed frame isn’t saving the planet.

After decades of trying, carbon markets still face issues of integrity and effectiveness. #COP29 risks repeating history by focusing on offsets instead of real mitigation.

30-70% of carbon offset projects would have happened anyway (Berkeley Carbon Trading Project, 2023).

#COP29 is doubling down on carbon credits to solve global warming. More than 90% of rainforest carbon offsets certified are “phantom credits” and do not represent genuine carbon reductions.

Too hard for business, and near impossible for consumers to separate real impact from fakes.
November 21, 2024 at 8:00 AM
#COP29 wants more carbon offsets. But the voluntary carbon market's focus on low-cost offsets is diverting attention and resources from essential emissions reductions.

We need carbon emissions to cost €150-400 per tonne to drive deep enough emissions reductions. After decades, Europe is at €80...

Worried that COP29's reliance on carbon markets will divert attention from genuine climate efforts. Emissions continue to rise, even as offsets increased:

BUT, only 13% of firms with climate targets are showing actual emissions reductions aligned with their goals (Net Zero Tracker)

#COP29 doubles down on carbon offsets. Current carbon prices remain far too low to create meaningful incentives for decarbonisation (IMF).

If companies can solve their decarbonisation through buying cheap credits, rather than investing in real action, we will not get there in time.

Keeping the global consumption within the planetary boundaries: The global top 10% contribute 43% of emissions and are breaching planetary boundaries.
