They say it because they have proven over and over again that if you tell a lie often and loudly people will believe it. I wonder how many Americans actually know what a tariff is, where it is paid or what impact it has on those imposing it. He gives a simple narrative which is easily absorbed.
I don't understand why the administration keeps saying that other countries pay our tariffs. This is simply not true even in the most optimistic scenario (e.g., a US importer negotiates something with their foreign partner). If the policy is good, why lie about it?
