This seems to be a “thin edge of the wedge” attack of VAD. If conservatives can get it banned in nursing homes, it is likely they will then expand it, but by bit, until the whole concept is shelved.

Do we, as a community and nation, fail to classify intimate partner and sexual violence as hate crimes? Why should we do so?

Do you see men as entitled to power, status and positions of leadership while women are in need of a strong hand to guide them?

A September 2022 poll by Politico found that 61% of Republicans and 17% of Democrats believe the United States should declare itself a Christian nation. How wide is this gulf? And what do Independents think?

The Trump administration told states Friday it working to comply with a federal court order to pay full November food stamp benefits during the government shutdown, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO.
The TACO buffoon does it again.

My understanding is that Sarah Henderson was defeated at the last election but resurrected by her party to take up a vacant senate seat.
Now she sits in judgement of her leader even though she is unelected.

I see the incredibly brilliant, economically savvy, and out-right cowardly investors of Tesla have agreed to Musk’s demand for a trillion dollar wage.
As if you needed proof that America’s financial sector is as broken and weak-kneed as all other parts of America, here it is.

We’ve just had a couple of days of rain in Melbourne. At my daughter’s house (Albert Park) there was a series of blocked drains so the street flooded. A neighbour rang the council and , quick smart, they turned up……and put up a “water over road” sign and left! Bloody council!

Researchers have found misogynistic posts positively predict domestic and family violence.(study of posts in the US across 47 states)
So those posts we see so often, thick with misogyny, are red flags for subsequent violence.

“Masculinity bridges racial differences for populist, fascist, and even white nationalist politics”…..Daniel HoSang and Joseph Lowndes.
The former chairman of the “Proud Boys” is a Cuban American.
The voters supporting the buffoon include large numbers of Latino and Black American males. How come?

If you have an opinion to share, that’s a good thing. But don’t then block replies.

The Australian moment is now
History, it could be convincingly argued, is a series of pivot points. It is rarely a progression of a sequence of events, but rather a series of critical moments where multiple pathways are made avai...

Harris fought back and clearly showed her displeasure at the interview. She did it calmly but forcefully. Ferguson was looking for criticism of Joe Biden and an expression of disappointment with his performance. Harris was having none of it. A really poor interview in my opinion.
I see reports that Sarah Ferguson treated Kamala Harris with a strong dose of disrespect while seeking to score cheap political points during an interview with Harris on @abcnews 7.30 last night, supposedly to discuss Harris' 2024 campaign memoir.

No further comment necessary. #auspol

Why are so many people on this platform aggressive, rude and users of vile language? Is it low self esteem, ignorance or just really bad upbringing?

People who post on this platform but then block the ability for anyone to reply are simply cowards. To publish an opinion but refuse to discuss or defend that opinion is cowardly.
I think it best for us all to block or mute such accounts so their useless opinions are made redundant.

Trump just slapped huge tariffs on Australian pharmaceuticals and the Coalition’s response is “disappointed.” These people scream about sovereignty when it’s China, but bow and mumble when it’s Trump. No principles. No strategy. Just submission #auspol

I think they call him the former chief medical officer because he is the former chief medical officer.
*Trump’s autism claims ‘cruel’ to pregnant women, Australia’s former chief medical officer says*

Ok, but why are you calling him the "former" CMO, @australia.theguardian.com?

SURELY he is still our CMO, appointed on a permanent basis in 2020? OR did he leave without telling anyone? #auspol

I haven’t seen any “brand” or single “logo” being attributed to the “Resistance” in America. If this loose confederation can’t even decide on a unifying symbol for their actions, there is practically no ability to unite people behind the ideas making up the “resistance”. Get a brand and get started!

If you use the word “must” a lot or “if only”…. care is required not to develop into a bigot…a person who is obstinately attached to a belief, or opinion, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group.

I’m no fan of our PM but I think the closure of this office could also be seen as being responsive to his neighbours. Continued protests outside his office could well have made life difficult for the surrounding outlets and this could be a sensitive reaction to those outlets. Maybe?
How's this for "leadership" from a prime minister.

Instead of listening to your constituents' cries for humanity, you close down your office.

I don't think even John Howard was this despicable, @albomp.bsky.social . Too pathetic for words, really. #auspol #GazaGenocide #GazaHolocaust

How good is your memory? And how confident are you of its accuracy?
We all (the generalisation is deliberate) have seriously faulty long term memories. What we think we remember, often with great clarity, are usually, at least partially, untrue.

I have the great misfortune to live on a street with parks at either end. It is a thoroughfare for dog owners to walk their charges in either direction at all hours of the day. And dog owners and their sense of responsibility for cleaning up after their dogs seem incompatible. Why is this so?

A thought: if we reframe gambling ads as incitement to problem gamblers to self harm would we have more possibility to curb these ads? So a straw man (self harm) is constructed to gain approval and the phrasing would be such that the definition of “self harm” would capture gambling ads.
