Writer of Romance. Reader of anything with text. Former studio exec, now author at Afterglow Books. LOVE AND OTHER HOLLYWOOD ENDINGS (“a treat” per Publishers Weekly) now available in bookstores everywhere! She/her.
Does the story have potential? Sure. But IMO - having read the ASM and ANV issues - Marvel has not earned any benefit of the doubt when it comes to their treatment of Mary Jane these last three years.

In the four issues to date of New Venom, MJ has appeared on only four pages. She’s reduced to being a foster mom yet again (the other kids magically disappeared 🙄) & although the mystery was easily guessed from the start, so far the symbiote is clearly in charge; MJ is just a voiceless passenger.

The assumption of the Jackpot identity reduces MJ to a passive passenger in her own story even further. She uses tech not originally made for her, her costume wasn’t chosen by her, even the idea of being a hero is suggested by others and not her active choice. The Jackpot mini died on the vine.

It’s a continuation of a highly misogynist story - Kamala got the lion’s share of attention but the Mary Sue calls out some of how the story reduced MJ to a “scarlet woman” “chained” into being a mother to two kids not her own (MJ’s canonical fate worse than death) www.themarysue.com/absolutely-n...
Absolutely No One Is Happy With Spider-Man's Latest Fridging
Unsurprisingly, there’s a lot of fully justified anger about this comic right now, because it treats its female characters terribly.

This story stems from a highly misogynistic status quo in which MJ was kidnapped, her agency removed, “chained” into being a trad wife mommy raising fake kids, lied to, decisions taken away from her - I could go on. Anyone who cares about women characters in comic books needs to boycott instead.

It’s even worse - Meta knowingly chose to use pirated books instead of licensing content.

That’s being mean to pistachio ice cream. Current ASM is a pint of artificially flavored non-dairy frozen dessert left out on the counter too long, put back in the freezer, and now is a clump of discolored ice crystals that only vaguely resemble its original state.

at Christian camps and I do not recognize these people and their hateful, antiChrist need to dominate others at all. I was recruited by Evangelicals as a teen and ran as far as I could in the other direction after a few meetings - even then I knew it was an authoritarian cult, not a true church.

Also? Today’s New York Times would make Goebbels proud with the way it stans for fascism.

Thank you so much!

It’s good to consider the unintended consequences! But we thought Tesla’s software was irresponsible - you can set the auto follow distance at much too close a distance for safety IMO & the one time we used the lane change assist, it cut off the car next to us - so I’m not too sad.

Also, the Tesla supercharger network was Tesla’s one great competitive advantage over other EVs. Now that the network is open, there’s no real reason to prefer Tesla over another EV brand IMO.

The biggest mindset switch - & lifestyle, as now one must factor in how/where/length of time to charge & possibly investing in home charger - is from gas engine to EV. Once you’ve made that switch, why would you go back to a gas car as 2nd choice? Esp since there are a plethora of great EV choices.

Since theTesla supercharger network opened to other car manufacturers, there is no reason to prefer Tesla if you’re in the market for an EV. Other EVs have surpassed Tesla in comfort and styling & we, for one, never trusted Tesla’s software. Very happy to be rid of our Tesla & love our Rivian.
