Meal time in a neurodivergent household is all about options. What may have been good last year can lose its status permanently without warning. There are some meals that transcend sustenance and remain secure, safe, and stable no matter how many years they grace the menu. Ours are Dagwood Night, Pizza Night, and Breakfast for dinner.

In 1978 I started driving manual transmission cars. I shift without conscious thought most of the time and prefer to downshift over straight braking. But, that means that when I am driving an automatic car care must be taken to not operate the car by instinct.

I'm in search of 3rd spaces. Throughout my life, I stumbled into, rather than navigated towards, places where we could gather en masse without the requirements to either pay admission or to be a member of a community. One of the primary draws to a 3rd space was accessibility. If I could walk there, that was the best. If it took a bike ride, it had to have a specific draw.

The twins would say an entire homily before a meal. Every single meal would get cold on our plates and the hot coffee would lose its steam before we could say Amen and eat. But this only happened when they were back home. I don't know how their parish in Taiwan fared at breakfast, lunch and dinner. When we gathered together as a family, our blessings for the year were replete.
