Huntington Beach news and opinion since 2016, brought to you by Mark Bixby.
It's both ironic and delicious that it may have been Gates of all people who screwed the Texas maps. :-)

But sure, let's invite Gates back to represent the city. What's the worst that could happen? LOL

That letter was controversial from the moment it was sent in early July, causing significant pushback from Texas which threw DOJ under the bus, saying that Dhillon and Gates were flat out wrong. But no matter, Texas pressed ahead, but it was all irrevocably tainted from the start.

But Gates put his name on the letter, associating this fiasco to him for the remainder of his days as an attorney.

It's impossible to know whether the very idea of sending such a letter originated from Dhillon or Gates, or who was the primary author making so many shoddy legal arguments that were torn to shreds in today's ruling.

The news coverage focuses on the DOJ letter from Harmeet Dhillon that needlessly injected racial gerrymandering allegations which ended up sinking the maps instead of providing political cover for them.

What hasn't been widely reported is that Michael Gates was the co-sender of that letter.

HBPD states that while its personnel were present in LA over the weekend for the protests, they were only there in an observational role, and that the mounted unit was NOT present.
