I directed a production of Glengarry back in college and my actors wanted me to add that scene and I was all "Mamet didn't want it so I'm not adding it". I did it in a small performance lab without an intermission and I stuffed 50 ppl in there. It added to the claustrophobic nature and it went well

It was originally a play and the writer David Mamet wanted Alec Baldwin to play Roma in the film adaptation, after the studio picked Pacino, Mamet wrote Baldwin's part exclusively for him and has refused to add it into the play, saying he wrote it only for Alec as an apology. Fun fact!

I wasn't impressed by the first one that much, but the sequels are considerably better imo. Yes the gore is QUITE absurd, but the practical effects and performances should be lauded.

My mom has a pretty similar opinion. She always said that the first hour was worthless, and I could not disagree more.
