Eater of everything. Old movies lover. Hiker. Anxious traveller. Worn down but doing the best I can.
📍Canada, eh?
Didn’t quite get to do the birthday celebration I had planned for Roman but we still made it to Occhiolino for a great Dinner & I made a deconstructed Black Forest Birthday Cake (ie. I didn’t have to ice the whole cake or pipe rosettes! 😂) with a yummy whipped cream/mascarpone frosting.

This post of Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World by @weinberg.social reminded me that I saw Gordon Wesley Rayner, Sr.’s Tally-Ho & its description said it seems to be similar in composition, which was cool to me! Wyeth was one of my late Dad’s fave artists & he loved Christina’s World especially.

My Mom heard about a free pumpkin giveaway two Saturdays ago and when we were at the end-of-Season Farmers Market, she walked to the park TWICE to get TWO free pumpkins! I was shocked when I got home! 😂 She carried them by herself. Can you believe it!? So here they are carved from last night!

I saw Dennis today. 😻 Had some turkey (very moist & delicious), tried my pickled garlic that has been aging (very hot but I like it!) and stuck to no sugar (so no dessert) as per week 3 of Postdiabetic. Even though it was pumpkin pie, I honestly did not feel like eating it today…who am I?

I have the Series on DVD out of nostalgia because I LOVED the show as a kid. S1 is the best and yes, it is very cheesy, but so much fun (imo)! Here is a picture I drew as a kid of Helena and Maya. 😂

Also tried a new wine: a Loire Romorantin from Domaine des Huards, which was a nice compromise between an oaky Chardonnay (Roman’s preference) and a Chenin Blanc (my preference). Also, look at this Mango Sticky Rice!

Had a FANTASTIC meal at the new Michelin-starred (much deserved), aKin. The 10 Course Tasting Menu with Snacks theme by Chef Eric Chong was so playful & progressively delicious. The double chicken skin Karaage, Hokkaido uni Tom Yum, Hainan Chicken Rice & Miyazaki Wagyu Beef were standouts to me.

But made sure to celebrate her birthday with her favourite slow-cooked veal shanks, hasselback potatoes with brie & cream and an Uncle Tetsu cheesecake. Found a cute birthday card with monarch butterflies & milkweed. Roman did so much yard work & we picked apples from her tree. What to do w/ them? 🤔

And to be all extra, we topped off the day with a What’s The Dill Yo? Pizza (and a Three Little Pigs Pizza) from Slowhand Sourdough Pizza. Both were fantastic! The crust was so crispy and good. The pickle pizza surprisingly worked!

Walking back stopped in for a cappuccino & flat white from Martin Espresso Bar (both very good; they use Subtext Coffee) where they had a great sign for cat & coffee lovers (see below). @chateauminette.com

Made it to Picklefest today on a gorgeous, sunny & warm day outside. Ate & sampled lots (faves were a fantastic bacon pickle pimiento cheese smash burger & a pickle & lime soda).

I remember this!!! LOL to you thinking about ABBA’s Fernando as the soundtrack to the fleeing llamas! Fun fact: Fernando was the first song I ever heard of ABBA’s and I was OBSESSED. My parents bought me their Greatest Hits album (below) for my birthday. My first record! I was in elementary school.

I love this photo of Monica Vitti (her glasses!) taken by Elisabetta Catalano.

Just ate a McCain Deep ‘n Delicious Cake (Canadians: #iykyk) because I had a craving. Probably last had one as a teen with my BFF as we watched our regular Saturday Hockey Night in Canada game. It still tastes the same (first ingredient is sugar! 🤪).

We went back! 😂 Can’t get enough of that chocolate cramik brioche! But I also picked up a Hattendo custard cream bun & orange cream bun and a hojicha pudding for dessert tonight. 😬

Roman bought me (but really my Mom 😍) lilies on the weekend & one just opened today!

Mom loved seeing The Snowbirds. She waved at them. 🥹 I made sure she got her Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard after and her fave Pie Commission Braised Beef Rib Pie. Saving their Peaches & Cream Butter Tart for Labour Day. 😊

I know people have feelings about The Air Show but it’s been something my Mom has looked forward to every year & I will take her until she no longer knows it, or me. The CP-140 Aurora’s being retired so it made a final appearance. I prepared fried chicken, coleslaw & potato salad for our picnic.

Had a craving for brioche so went to Aux Merveilleux De Fred & got myself a Chocolate Cramik Brioche with an Iced Mocha. The brioche was very very good. Also picked up some Marvelous Pastries made of meringue/whipped cream: chocolate, coffee & cherry. Good but a tad too sweet for me. Prefer brioche.

Also got to visit with Goose today. 😻 She is so cute & chill and always insists that her butt be petted multiple times when you walk in the door! 😂

Discovered this wine bar after a funeral last Spring & just love their patio and wine selections. Went for Happy Hour today (perfect weather on the patio) & everything was terrific. Especially loved the Vernaccia di San Gimignano & their Tiramisu (had a craving!).

I’m reading How Lovely The Ruins: Inspirational Poems And Words For Difficult Times and, *THIS* from William Faulkner…👊🏻 Meditating helps for me, and music, but words - definitely - and I’m so glad I am back to reading after not wanting to when Dad was sick & then when he was gone.
