I have the opportunity to teach a 6-8th grade elective course; it will basically be literature circles. I need to come up with a course title and description. What would you call it?

The school board in my district is considering cutting school librarians on Tuesday at their board meeting. If you can, please help by emailing the members to show your support for keeping them ⤵️

I woke up this morning and saw a bunch of state park closure announcements, and severely cut hours, from across our state. The comments were so nasty and hateful and usually revolved around thanking DOGE. Anyone who said they were sad about the closures got laughing emojis and ugly remarks. (1/8)

#TLSkyChat A5: Book bins on the tables with a variety of pictures books, fiction & nonfiction, various grade/reading levels. Every K-5 class starts with silent/quiet reading & book sharing. I try to rotate the books and or the bins weekly.

#TLSkyChat A3: haven’t had a chance bc of ❄️ days, but I’ve collaborated with the MS social studies teacher. She will bring her classes to my Elm classes to buddy read nonfiction picture books about historical black Americans for BOM. They will discuss problems and solutions.

#TLSkyChat A2: First Line Face Off stack of books on the tables Timer set for 2-3 minutes -Ss read the first few lines of a book. Time up- Ss try to convince their group why their first lines are best. Do twice at each table, then switch tables. It works because it’s fast paced.

#TLSkyChat A1: My go to protocol for student engagement is 👍🏻, 👎🏻, sideways thumb. 👍🏻 if Ss have an idea or answer, 👎🏻 if they don’t know/need help, sideways if they think they know/not sure. I also use it for opinions on the read aloud. 👍🏻= great 👎🏻=not a fan, sideways = meh/take or leave.

This morning because of my choices I was: *in a car crash
*took a ride on a run away polar bear *destroyed by people-eating chicken nuggets *lost & found in Walmart *made it to candy land and lived happily ever after. 4th grade choose-your-own adventure stories were really adventuring today.

It was so fun to watch this. I cheered when books that are already a part of my school library collection won. And I immediately added everything else to a future “to order” list.
Congrats to all the authors and illustrators! Thanks for doing what you do! ❤️ 📚
Congratulations to all the honorees of this year’s Youth Media Awards!
Thank you to ALA members & library professionals everywhere who pour their passion, time & dedication into finding the very best books & media for their communities. Your work matters.📚

Awards are just one piece of a big puzzle. Some books win awards. Some books get no stickers but STICK in our hearts forever. This year, all of those books, written so kids might better understand their place in this dark and scary world, feel more important than ever. #ALAYMA #TLSkyChat #KidLit

My husband and I talking while working on separate projects
Him: I need to show you something I picked up at the thrift store
Me: Ok. Go get it
Him: Not now. When I finish this.
1 thing @ a time
Me: 1 thing @ a time?! What’s that like? I didn’t even know that was option!

I’m sorry (but not really). But this is all I can think about when they talk about how the inauguration has been moved inside because of the “cold”. 😂
Iconic.

This week I read Pretty Ugly by David Sedaris and Ian Falconer to my K-5 classes as part of Mock Caldecott. Without fail, every class had visceral reactions. Everything from hysterical 😂 to fake 🤮. Every time, they voted it as a fave. “That’s disgusting! I love it” about sums up their responses.

I need recs for a book with short chapters that appeals to 6-8th grade. My admin wants our middle school Ss to start having SSR every day during their 12 minute advisory time, and she wants them all reading the same book. Thanks!

Last week we were out of town for my daughter’s wedding. One night at dinner, as we were talking about it, our server asked how long we had been married (33 yrs). Then he shared that he and his husband have been married for 40 years. 1/

I never really posted at the other place, but I’m hoping to participate and be more active here where the skies are blue.
So, for a soft launch- here’s Baron, our 11 yr old dachshund.

Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!

And having certified school librarians with a budget and the freedom to curate their collections is also critical in these times.
