NEW 📰: Inequality in the US has never been higher. But what if, instead of trying to close the gap after the fact, we adopted policies that prevented it in the first place.

@skvogel.bsky.social and @sunnysmalhotra.bsky.social lay out a plan for a predistribution agenda: https://bit.ly/4rXStTs

Deeply honored that work from my team on the climate dimensions of genocide in Palestine was discussed at length at the Intl Court of Justice yesterday. War & militarism are insufficiently accounted for in climate policy; hopefully a strong advisory ruling can start to change that. Starts ~1:41:00
THE HAGUE – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) holds public hearings in the advisory proceedings on Climate Change – Nauru; Nepal; New Zealand; State of Palestine and Pakistan

A reminder that “austerity” has never been about cutting spending, but about weaponizing budgets to consolidate the power of specific interests. And people say Industrial Policy is picking winners…
Sorry to state the obvious, but it will be easy to judge precisely how farcical Elon and Vivek's budget busy box is by how little they recommend cutting the DoD - the only government department to never to pass an audit, having now failed 7 consecutive times.
Pentagon fails 7th audit in a row but hopes to pass by 2028
The Pentagon has failed its annual financial audit for the seventh year in a row. This means the Department of Defense (DOD) has failed every single audit

new working paper ⬇️💰

the assumption that shareholders are the key investors in business innovation is simply taken as a given

it's past time to abandon this myth: shareholders of corporations are not always, or even often, “investors.”
NEW: Shareholders should not get exclusive power in corporate governance.

@lenorepalladino.bsky.social & Harrison Karlewicz argue we need to abandon the myth that shareholding and investing go hand in hand 🤝 and rethink the regulation of financial markets: rooseveltinstitute.org/publications...

Last week #Amazon launched Amazon Haul to compete with #Shein and #Temu 's ultra cheap shopping platforms. As I wrote about in a recent Fireside Stack, fast fashion is nothing new, but a continuation of historical low-road business practices. www.firesidestacks.com/p/cheap-clot...

It's easy to think today's climate investment is a temporary phenomenon. But policy feedback theory and history show perhaps it's here to stay. I write about why in my new blog. #CleanEnergy #IndustrialPolicy rooseveltinstitute.org/2023/12/12/c...
