Teen son and his pals booked one and had a great afternoon hanging out, talking about their post-LC plans, and their mental health. Then they raided the local village pizza takeaway and sat on the beach getting sunshine. They were gone five hours.

Unusual but necessary third space!
Fingal County Council is revising its by-laws to facilitate the growing popularity of saunas. A summer pilot proved there is demand for mobile saunas, said a council official at a recent meeting.

How wild should allotments be? The rules vary, with some sites allowing plot-holders a lot of leeway, and others making it hard to bring in certain measures that would support biodiversity.

I cycled this route from Phoenix Park into Blanchardstown, and I ended up walking a good bit. I was tired from cycling uphill from the Southside, but also I just wanted to get out of the road.
New bridge for cyclists and pedestrians “critical” to route linking Blanchardstown and Phoenix Park, council official says. The council has set the wheels in motion on building it, in Castleknock, next to the Granard Bridge.

Oh my I had such a great time joining staff and "NCAD Field" students for the 4th annual scything day. It was 16 of us, and there was something about that super unexpected wild space right in the Liberties, and the scything and the weather and the people that was so serene.
On Thomas Street on Monday, an annual rediscovery of scythes was underway. “I don't think I can ever get used to living in the city, actually,” said one participant. “So when I heard about this opportunity, I was like, ‘Okay, this sounds like a real thing.’”

I’m in the paper again, this time complaining about how a lack of accommodation in #Dublin is causing long commutes for students, and forcing changes to how we teach. Article by @sunnibean.bsky.social. #HigherEducation #academia #Ireland #UCD
As the university year starts, lecturers are changing how they teach in response to the student accommodation crisis and long commutes. Some are turning to longer, less frequent, classes – but there’s a pedagogical trade-off, says UCD lecturer Keith Wilson.

I always love diving into a subculture-- bottle collecting + recycling for cash is something I've seen many times. I love that journalism forces me to approach people and learn from them. I spent the evening with Vanessa collecting recyclable cans, and she was open about the perks and challenges.
On Dublin’s streets, bottle and can collectors now have their regular rounds. “It’s worth it,” says Vanessa Breen, who collects the rubbish to exchange for cash. “But you have to be quick, and you have to want to do it.”

Another article on how UCD students are grappling with the S6 bus because it seems driving is the thing again and Dublin City Council is promoting active travel-- so I want them to learn about the people that want to do that too but feel they can't.

I talked to college students for this- I had been thinking they're lucky that they're not of the college COVID generation, but it sounds tough. Pushing and shoving to make the bus. Potentially missing exams because transport doesn't come. Wishing the best for these ambitious students.

I went to 20 coffee shops this weekend to ask if they did this this scheme, and I found a surprising variation! I told the barista at number 17 (Off Beat Donuts) how many I had gone to, she was like .. do you want.. a coffee ?
