Building Critical Mass for Palliative Care Research | Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre
The world population is ageing and, with the growth of multi-morbidities, UK deaths are expected to increase by 40% by 2040. New models of care and treatments are urgently needed to improve quality of life for the significantly increased number of people living with life-limiting illnesses. Yet research activity remains extremely limited and neglected, with a severe lack of critical mass of academics and research centres to build the palliative care evidence base. www.hyms.ac.uk/wolfson

There is an urgent need to understand and address the inequalities in pain relief at #EOL Adequate pain relief is a #humanright.
A major UK study led by @jonathankoffman.bsky.social reveals stark inequalities in end-of-life care: Cancer patients from minority ethnic backgrounds are significantly less likely to receive adequate opioid pain relief in their final months.Read more: www.hull.ac.uk/news-and-eve...

#Ambition2021 and the 2025 commission on PC and #EOLC urge for more funding of #researchinpc only 0.26% of the total health research funding is allocated to #PalliativeCare #HealthResearch . urgent investment needed
New paper published @flissmurtagh.bsky.social Funding for palliative research remains very low: out of total of 18,023 health research awards in 2022, only 136 related to palliative research – just 0.26% of the total £4.2billion awarded. See spcare.bmj.com/content/earl...

Powerful plenary by @mhoira.bsky.social giving voice to the voiceless — healthcare workers under attack in conflict zones. They speak of feeling abandoned. The closing word cloud from the audience says it all — deeply moving and unforgettable. #Humanity #EAPC2025 @eapcvzw.bsky.social
