Neon Gods - Katee Robert

I’m learning that I love Katee’s characters and plot premises’, but I feel super unsatisfied by the fast pace of their character/relationship development. The kink was done well, but the climax of this one was so deepy disappointing it made me genuinely angry.

A fantastic sequel to Phantasma!! I didn’t relate to the characters quite as well, but it was still super fun and I really loved the side characters this time!! I can’t wait for the rest of the series and to uncover all the secrets left!!! 10/10 would recommend

"Good." Catra crosses her arms and stares down Adora, trying and failing to find the words she needs and get them to leave her tongue. How the fuck does she even begin a request like this? ...Am I being fired?" Adora asks, her voice wobbling. "I left a new report for you this morning, and I've been working as quickly as I can on—" "You're not being fired," Catra cuts her off with a hand, and then pauses. "Well, not yet." "What?!" "I—" Catra pinches the bridge of her nose between two claws, taking a deep breath in and closing her eyes. "I just need a minute. Adora's silent for a few breaths, and then her voice shrinks. "Are you okay?" she asks with the sensitivity of someone who actually cares. "Are you...sick, or something?" "No.” "Then what the hell is going on?!" She crosses her arms once more, digging her nails into her arm until the pain loosens her tongue, and then she forces it out. "We need to get married." The silence that follows her declaration is deafening—so complete Catra's not even sure that Adora's still breathing. She refuses to turn around and check. "Did you hear me?" she snaps. Adora stutters to life. "I—uh, I'm….I'm actually not sure if I did?" Catra squeezes her eyes shut, her tail snapping against her ankle. "Do not make me say it again."

"So who exactly are we trapping?" Sea Hawk asks, leaning around the edge of the Taco Bell counter to try and catch a glimpse. Entrapta grabs his sleeve and pulls him backwards. "All of the Fright Zone's most recent serial killers reincarnated." Sea Hawk blinks at Entrapta, his eyebrows descending as he tries to figure out if she's joking or not. "And they've reincarnated to... kill us?" Entrapta shrugs. "Mostly they want to kill Catra, maybe me and Mara for fun. You're safe unless you get in the way." "Right...and Sheriff Horde..?" "She's evil." "ACAB," Sea Hawk nods solemnly. "My ancestor may be a vapid fool, but I am not." Hezekiah steps forward and thrusts his arm out; before Mara can even react, his fingers are tightly gripping her throat. "Humans are weak and prone to folly. I have surpassed even their greatest strengths." Mara slashes at his arm with the knife but his other hand shoots out and stops her. His big mouth opens to begin prattling on, but all that follows is a shout as he suddenly doubles over and pulls her closer. Mara's leg swings back as he shakes her-Catra can't help but grin as she realizes Mara must have kicked him right in his ancient ballsack. Now today I feel completely normal again, except that while I worked for two hours (stare at screen click buttons SIT STLL) my heart decided we were in a horror movie and raced (stayed above 100bpm) for the ENTIRE TWO HOURS 😵‍💫🫨🫠 dear heart WTF do you know that I don’t???

The relevant part is the end of the graph, which shows several huge spikes and then multiple spikes between 100 and 131bpm between 12:20pm and 2:20pm, two hours in which I was sitting still THE WHOLE TIME. The graph then violently drops off from 116 to 80bpm when I stopped working and went to lay down. SOS

Mara erupts from the car the second the gear shift hits park, stomping up the walkway to the front door like an unstoppable force. Catra and Entrapta scramble after her, fumbling for a minute to drag a sleepy, drugged Adora from the trunk to come inside with them. By the time the three of them join her, Mara's fist is already knocking on the door, shockingly gentle for the tension visibly roiling through her body. After a few seconds of silence, the door opens to reveal the sheriff in plain clothes. Her curious confusion shifts immediately to bewilderment, and it's more expressive than anything Catra's ever seen from her. "Mara?" is all that manages to escape from the sheriff's lips before Mara's fist slams into her jaw.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Big Bang Writer Preview (May 12-18, 2025) "The deadline for the Jones project has moved up," Catra blurts, stepping back from Adora's cubicle before she can do something she really shouldn't with this large of an audience. "To when?" Adora challenges, abandoning her keyboard and turning her full body and attention to Catra. "Tomorrow morning," she asserts, raising her voice just slightly. "I'll need your full report on my desk by the end of today." "The end of the day?!" Adora startles, her eyes widening prettily. "I can't possibly get that done in time, it'll take all night!" "Then I guess you'll be working late," Catra says simply, one eyebrow quirking up. "Maybe if you hadn't spent so long goofing off, it would have already been done." Adora looks at her helplessly, deflating into her chair in defeat. "I was only given it three days ago." "That's not my problem," Catra shrugs simply. "Figure it out and get it done." Adora's report meets her desk fully completed several hours before midnight, and many hours after the rest of the department clocked out and went home for the day. It's formatted perfectly, exactly as Catra demanded it be, and she even fixed the issue with footnotes that her last report had. Catra leafs through it, doing her best to read the content and digest it. The project deadline had moved up—but only to the end of next week. Which was a good thing, because no matter how many times she reads the same sentence, the words still swim before her meaninglessly. Fingers tickle up her calf like ghosts, drawing the minuscule amount of focus she has left after such a long work day far away from thoughts of the Jones project and how to best conduct next week's client meeting. When the fingers reach her bare knees they're joined with feather-light kisses, the brushes of lips just as soft as the breaths that blow onto her skin and rustle her leg hair. Deft hands slip under the edges of her appropriately long office skirt, thumbs pushing the hem of it up her thighs at an agonizing pace. Kisses begin to follow her hands, the soft brushes increasing to pressurized sucking, and when an elbow draws her knees apart and teeth scrape her inner thigh, Catra has to bite her own lip to keep from audibly keening. Heat rushes to her center at the attention, flooding her with shaking anticipation.

Bhatt writes that she is skeptical of attempts to differentiate "positive" and "toxic" masculinity, which, she says, tend to portray violence and misogyny as tragic deviations from "real" manliness, rather than the norm and intended outcome of patriarchy. As long as masculinity is defined antagonistically, in terms of having more power than someone else, then subjugation and oppression will be essential to its performance. Is it possible to create a coherent idea of masculinity without invoking dominance of women, children and queer people as part of that package? Possibly. The first step is measuring the distance between that kind of masculinity and how men actually live. To be clear, the ideals of "manhood" and "womanhood" set forth by the gender binary are both impossible for any one person to embody. Men's gender insecurity, though, is prone to being manipulated toward fascist ends; strongman "leaders" can vicariously embody the cartoonish, inflated "masculinity" that men understand themselves to be lacking. In the end, Trump is just another set of shaving products: he's a way to buy back an assurance of "masculinity" in a world where no one's masculinity is assured.
