Wow. Times have changed since I was dating. I can't imagine going to a guy's house on a first date. Public place, don't leave your drink unattended, $5 in your wallet in case you need to get a taxi home. But that was the 70s. I guess guys are more trustworthy now?

I'm obsessed with guanciale. I made my own once, from Marc Vetri's recipe. Deep respect for charcutiers who do this for a living. Guanciale is the best. A jowl that's lucky enough to become guanciale is the envy of all other jowls.

How did he deliver the news? I could see it being OK or brutal, depending on his demeanor. My diagnosis was 6.5 years ago. The news from the doctor who did the biopsy was no surprise, but I could feel the room spinning. I remember her kindness. Congrats for being here to enjoy that hot chocolate.
