Agree about the signal. A focused national effort could make a big difference in 5 years. Could start with the simpler stuff like insulating roofs and draught-proofing.

Makes me wonder that when a new phenomenon arises and science is trying to catch up, it pays to listen more to a wide range of common sense, experience and wisdom and rely less on the group-think of a limited number of scientists.

Begs the questions:-

1) What lessons could the IEA learn from US EIA?
2) Unless I'm mistaken, IEA forecasts get more attention than those made by US EIA. Going forward should we pay attention to US EIA forecasts and take IEA forecasts with a large dollop of salt?

Thanks. @drsimevans.bsky.social's summary of the AMOC tipping point study is balanced but extremely worrying.

7/ ...from 19m to 5m homes is a near 75% reduction in ambition. @Uklabour should think again. This policy to insulate homes is easy to explain, based on common sense, economically sound and a vote-winner among those most likely to vote Labour. /Ends

3/ Wrt @UKlabour's £28bn U-turn it seems that the largest impact will be on the plan to insulate homes (only 5m homes to be retrofitted instead of 19m). This is a big mistake. The plan was to insulate low income homes. It's often said that the green transition should be built...

2/ It's dispiriting to learn about the potential imminent (this century) AMOC collapse and then be confronted with:-
- @UKLabour's £28bn U-turn
- Oil and Gas companies support for Donald Trump
- The head of TotalEnergies claiming that the energy transition will increase prices
