Elderqueer (he/him) out since the '70s. Former Chicago newspaper guy, from copy boy to editorial board via points between. Friend of facts, foe of fascists. At home in Key West, missing my late husband after 38 years together. 🌈
The great part about a little cold snap is that it can trigger blooming in phalaenopsis orchids. The not-so-great part: My hothouse flower of a self is shivering in a hoodie.

Here's a centerpiece Robert made for a Thanksgiving table. Memories of him are my biggest blessing ever. But then there's this morning's music of rain on the roof, the unswerving love of dear friends, all the joys of living and giving... and for all that and more, all I can say is thanks a lot.

Reminds me of my church robe change from junior to senior choir, with a year of breaking dangerously between. Boy-soprano solos or "baritenor" parts, I've been at home on the range.

I am quite beyond that. Resuscitation methods are under way.

The intensity of light and color in Karl's corner caught my eye. I'm tickled that sometimes we used artworks bought long ago as paint chips. The acid green? Some new leaves in the garden out the window.

My porch screen is terrific for filtered light, sweet breezes and privacy, but for mosquito control, not so hot.

Spay and neuter, horticultural edition: Seed-bearing branches, technically called inflorescences, lopped from my Christmas palms. You can't begin to imagine the mess they drop if they're allowed to mature.

"No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have researched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby." — H.L. Mencken🌱📷

Missed opportunity: Trump's fancy White House dinner for the Saudi crown prince served pistachio-crusted rack of lamb, but there were no tiny golden bone saws among the cutlery. They would have been a perfect finishing touch.

Mallet, Incidentally, has continued in the business of erotica after aging out of le monde de Cadinot.

The suspended figure is exquisite. Cadinot's work is fascinating, though sometimes his preoccupation with youth seems to border on the transgressive. I will admit that his apparent muse for several years, Antoine Mallet, has an undeniably sensual look worthy of Socratic Greece.

If the name of this giant in American journalism is new to you, I strongly recommend "Ida: A Sword Among Lions," by Paula Giddings. Wells's Wikipedia entry might entice you, too.
