Or that the programme in question was made by an outside production company.

We used to despatch our plants from @bluebellcottage.bsky.social to NI, as we still do to anywhere else in the UK. We don't now. It's totally impractical and expensive.

And of course you can buy excellent, complete private health care in UK, if you want to, or get diagnosed via NHS and then elect to pay privately for treatment, usually a bit quicker, nicer room etc. But literally no one breaks leg or gets cancer and goes bankrupt. No one.

Per capita health care is much, much cheaper in the UK than in the USA. Presumably fewer companies taking margins but I really don't know. Anyway the cost per p.p in UK is £3,300p.a, but of course it's covered by general taxation inc. Corp tax etc. so most pay much less towards it in tax.

I was thinking also about the people injured in the awful train stabbing here, mercifully rare. All will get good treatment for injuries at no cost. If it had been the US, they'd have to pay/be insured, even though caused by 3rd party. Nightmare upon nightmare.

We do one of the four in the UK - the healthcare piece. It's a start... At least if you're alive and fairly healthy, you can probably work and afford the other three. Probably...

How come it's so insanely easy just to fire people on a whim in the U.S. Are there no legal protections, no due processes for employees?

Just as Trump did before he was elected, he's telling us very clearly what he would do. Believe him...

Brilliant. The end of astronomy then. We would be the last generation to see the stars.

And here's 2025... The index overlays the graph on the screenshot but still works I think. Sournce grid.iamkate.com

Oh sorry - must have missed it off the screenshot....

If we spend less on energy to produce stuff, go places, hear our homes, that reduces GDP because. illogically, the energy we use to make stuff is part of the GDP measure...

I first put solarPV on my house ten years ago because it made economic sense (with FIT). I doubled it in 2020 and added battery storage - that was exactly the inflection point where it made economic sense. No need to argue the net-zero case - solar justifies itself. One question re GDP... 1/2
November 1, 2025 at 8:34 PM
Ten years ago I told my physics-geek (now ex-) husband that #solarPV would produce lower cost energy than the much vaunted nuclear fusion ever would. If we'd spent 10% of the nuclear fusion budget on solar research we'd have been there much earlier.

Yes - the transition is happening apace and there is only one direction of travel... #renewables.

This would be the electorate that he and his cabal told a pile of fibs to in order to persuade them to vote for the very thing that has caused Britain's woes. How dare he....

Heading for Jamaica to support the Hurrican Melissa relief effort, no doubt....
